I looked over several lists of frequently banned books (such as the pages on the ALA site, http://www.ala.org/bbooks/frequentlychallengedbooks), and realized with some surprise how many of them I've read and how many of them are "favorites" for one reason or another. From my years in K-12 education: The Harry Potter books, The Lorax, Charlotte's Web, Sylvester & the Magic Pebble, Where's Waldo, In the Night Kitchen, The Giver, A Wrinkle in Time... From my fascination with fantasy and sci-fi: Brave New World, Clockwork Orange, Earth's Children series, Fahrenheit 451... From my recent interest in YA dystopian novels: The Hunger Games, Little Brother, Brave New World... And, of course, classic titles like: Catch-22, The Kite Runner, Their Eyes Were Watching God, Flowers for Algernon, To Kill a Mockingbird, A Land Remembered, Of Mice and Men, The Color Purple, Of Mice and Men, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Cat's Cradle, A Lesson Before Dying, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings... Seems to me that a "banned books list" might be the perfect starting point for some interesting reading. :)
